c.1955 Linemar Superman Turnover Tank in Original Box
Super scarce Linemar version of the popular Marx wind-up "Superman Tank". Comes complete with beautifully illustrated original box. Toy is similar in design, but the lithography is completely different from the U.S. toy. Rather than blue, the Man of Steel's primary color is yellow! The action of the flat Superman appearing to lift up and turn over an attacking tank is identical. The box also differs significantly. The U.S. version used the standard Turnover Tank box stamped "Superman Tank" on the side flaps. This version, however, has full color images of Superman lifting the tank, turning it over, and even holding it above his head. The enflames, printed in red with Superman inside a circle is right out of the mid to late 1950's style (Greenberg's Guide indicated it was made in the 60's, but I wholeheartedly disagree). Still has its original 59¢ price sticker on one panel. To date (Jul. 2012) this remains the best and one of the few examples I've seen of this toy. Sold: Sep. 2006
